For Meghan Kuipers, this quote exemplifies the brilliant and adventurous spirit she sees every day in the residents living at Kawartha Lakes Retirement Residence in Bobcaygeon, ON.

“They don’t let their age hold them back from doing things for themselves, being who they are, and embracing their independence,” said Meghan, who is a guest attendant at Kawartha Lakes.

Recently, Kawartha Lakes donated a paddle, beautifully painted by Meghan, to the Vibrant Village project. The project seeks to brighten Bobcaygeon while paying tribute to its heritage as a main waterway route for both First Nations and settlers. Seventy wooden paddles are on display in the downtown streets, including the one painted by Meghan, which features a friendly-faced senior and the quote: “Age is a question of mind over matter – if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

The portrait Meghan chose for the paddle is not someone she knows personally, but she said his warmth reminded her of the seniors she sees and spends time with every day.
