Moses started at Fieldstone Commons Care Community in Scarborough, ON, as a nursing student, today he’s the director of care. For Moses, getting to know residents on a personal level is part of what makes his job rewarding, and it’s one of the things he loves most about working in long-term care.
"If you really want to get to know residents, people, you should come to long-term care,” Moses said. “Knowing you've made a change in so many residents' lives is very rewarding."
While at Fieldstone Commons, Moses received a lot of support from his mentor, Lorraine Gibson, currently the senior executive director at Fieldstone. He also feels privileged to have been able to work with a friendly and supportive team.
“The reason I love working with my team is their focus is always the resident. They always want to keep the resident in mind,” Moses said. “They always want to ensure the resident gets what they want and what they need. Having a great team who comes up with creative ideas helps.”
“When I am walking around, where I see a resident in their wheelchair and I go down to their eye level and we have a chat… we laugh and we’re just being people. That is the warmth of human connection. I am no longer the DOC, I am no longer a nurse, I am just a person who is getting to know another person.”
