6 tips for moving into a senior living community with your pet

You want your furry or feathered friend to be as excited about your new home as you are. The tips below will help ensure you have a smooth transition, so that the two of you can begin to enjoy your new home together.

  1. Try to setup most of your furniture before introducing your pet. This could mean leaving your pet with a friend or relative temporarily while you settle in.

  2. Travel to your new home with your pet.

  3. Pack an overnight bag for your pet. Having some of their familiar favourites around will make them feel at home.

  4. Stick to their schedule as much as possible. Try to keep feeding and walking times the same as they were before the move.

  5. Update your pet’s information, tags and microchip with your new phone number and address. You can start this before your pet's move-in date.

  6. If you need to change your veterinarian, connect with your old vet to collect all of your pet’s medical information and prescriptions.

These six tips will help ensure you and your pet have a smooth transition into your new home.
